Chrissie Hynde, 57, was born in Akron, Ohio. She attended Kent State University where she formed her first rock group. During the 70s she moved to London, where she worked briefly as a music critic; in 1978, she founded the Pretenders. Their self-titled debut album achieved success in the UK and US, and is now a rock classic. Despite the deaths of the original members, Pete Farndon and James Honeyman-Scott, and numerous line-up changes, Hynde has continued to release Pretenders albums. The latest is Break Up The Concrete.
