Laura Mvula, 28, was born in Birmingham. She sang in her aunt Carol Pemberton's a cappella group, Black Voices, and studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire. She was working as a receptionist when her demo tape was picked up, and in March 2013 she released her debut album, Sing To The Moon and won two Mobos. This year, she was nominated for an Ivor Novello and two Brit awards, including best British female solo artist. She is married to the Zambian-born classical singer Themba Mvula and lives in London. She performs at Bestival on Friday.
