Matthew Bourne, 49, was born in London. He began his dance training at 22, and in 1987 founded his first company, Adventures In Motion Pictures. In 1995, he unveiled his all-male version of Swan Lake, which went on to win numerous awards and is the world's longest-running ballet production. He launched a new company, New Adventures, in 2002. His latest award-winning work is Dorian Gray, which runs until 19 July at Sadler's Wells in London and then tours the UK until November.
