I’d like to say sorry to my mother. I had to choose between my parents, and I chose my father because he didn’t have any other kids. (My mother was a war widow and had two children from her first marriage.) I thought, in a childish way, that one had to be fair. It was very difficult for my mother and me, and we never really got over it.
Nelson Mandela, because I didn’t do enough to stop apartheid. Now I have hopefully made amends.
To my mother for disappointing her. Mummy wanted me to be a different sort of person from who I am, but one can’t change oneself.

When I was starting out, in the early 90s, I had to fake an orgasm in a room full of male ad execs at an audition for a chocolate bar ad. It was grim.
