To my daughter, because she felt that I spent too much time saving other children. I would go to war zones and travel the world for human rights work, and she was missing me.
Our dog, Snowy. He’s a miniature poodle, and he’s needy and really irritating as a result.
To Jade, my other half, because I can be hard work sometimes, and he is the most calm and understanding person I’ve ever met.
I’d like to say sorry to my mother. I had to choose between my parents, and I chose my father because he didn’t have any other kids. (My mother was a war widow and had two children from her first marriage.) I thought, in a childish way, that one had to be fair. It was very difficult for my mother and me, and we never really got over it.
I’m closer today than I was yesterday.
It’s probably a bit of an ask, but I’d like my latest book to stay in print. For ever.
