Arianna Huffington, 63, was born in Athens, Greece. She went to Cambridge University and in 1973 wrote The Female Woman, the first of 13 books. In 1985, she married the US Republican politician, Michael Huffington, with whom she has two daughters; they divorced in 1997. In 2005, she launched the Huffington Post, which last year became the first online-only news organisation to win a Pulitzer prize for national reporting.
