EL James, 49, was born in London. She read history at the University of Kent and went on to become a TV producer. In 2009 she began writing erotic fiction, submitting stories to fanfiction.net. This year, her first novel, Fifty Shades Of Grey, topped bestseller lists around the world. Foreign rights have been sold in 54 territories and a film adaptation is in development. She is married, has two sons, and lives in west London.
