Nile Rodgers, 60, was born in New York when his mother was 14. As a teenager, he was a session guitarist and toured with the Sesame Street band. In the 1970s, he and Bernard Edwards formed Chic, whose many hits included the triple platinum-selling single Le Freak. The duo wrote hits for Diana Ross and Sister Sledge, and Rodgers produced albums such as Let's Dance for David Bowie. In 2010, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but is now cancer-free. He recently co-wrote and performed on Get Lucky, Daft Punk's global hit. Chic featuring Nile Rodgers are appearing at Magic Summer Live in Guildford this weekend.
