Sir Trevor McDonald, 71, was born in Trinidad. His media career began in the West Indies where he was a radio reporter, news presenter and sports journalist. In 1969 he moved to London to work as a BBC producer. He joined ITN as a reporter in 1973 and went on to become a presenter. In 1992, McDonald became the first sole presenter of News At Ten and, by the time he retired in 2008, he had received more awards than any other news broadcaster in Britain. His new series, The Secret Mediterranean, starts on ITV1 on Tuesday.
