I put out a song called Monsters on my last album, about my father’s illness – he had stage four chronic kidney disease – and a handful of people offered him a new kidney. People’s kindness really touched me.
Two weeks before shooting – after some of our financing dropped out – when the producers said I had to cut a week’s worth of scenes out of my script. I was on location and away from my daughters [currently in middle and high school] who I felt were needing a mother.
Probably watching some poor abandoned cat or dog being nursed back to life by a stranger on YouTube.
When I heard the referendum result.
Antiques and art – I collect 17th‑century portraits.
Safety, and being able to be completely yourself.
As someone who tried, who had dignity, and stuck to what she believed in despite the storms.
I changed my mind on airing my views. Sometimes silence is better.
The first time I remember being truly happy was with my children on Ainsdale beach, not far from Southport. I spent £15 on butties, and we spent the whole day by the sea.
It’s that bad, I’d never repeat it. I’ll just say it was particularly cruel and incredibly racist. It was somebody that I used to date, at the end of the relationship, and it hurt very deeply.
