I don’t think I’ve ever been close to death but I am a nervous flyer, especially during turbulence, so there have been many times where I’ve felt that I was.

Making Apocalypse Now. I had a close call with a heart ailment due to anxiety, fear and physical abuse: I was not taking care of myself.
Before transitioning, I had a severe eating disorder. The doctor said, “Your body’s shutting down and if you don’t improve your mental and physical wellbeing, you’ll die.” Shortly after that, I started transitioning medically and my eating disorder resolved.
Diving in the Virgin Islands. I lost sight of the boat and had to swim to a tiny, deserted island. After a great deal of time, the rescue boat saw me waving for my life on the rocks.
A car accident in Italy in 1990. Four people got killed. I was lucky, I got thrown out.
To everyone who has been out with me and had to deal with my lack of emotional maturity.
There was a period in the early 2000s when I had been doing celebrity profiles and thought I’d lost my way creatively.
To have made a career in TV while being nervous by nature and incapable of doing a piece to camera.
