English comedian and actor
United Kingdom · b. 1966
John Bishop, 46, was born in Liverpool. He was working as a sales rep when, after the collapse of his marriage, he began performing standup to combat loneliness. In 2006, as he approached his 40th birthday, he left his job to become a full-time comedian. Within three years he was playing to sold-out arenas. In 2012 he raised over £4m for Sport Relief when he cycled, rowed and ran from Paris to London. He and his wife Melanie were reconciled more than a decade ago, and the family live in Cheshire. His autobiography, How Did All This Happen?, is published next week.
