Liz Jones, 55, was brought up in Essex, the youngest of seven. After studying at the London College of Printing, she went into fashion journalism, and in 1998 became editor of Marie Claire. She was sacked in 2001 after campaigning against the use of models with eating disorders. She now writes a column for the Mail on Sunday. The author of five books, including her memoir Girl Least Likely To, she appears at Henley Literary Festival next week.
