Stuart Broad, 26, was born in Nottingham, the son of a teacher and the England cricketer Chris Broad. Educated at Oakham school, he made his first-class debut for Leicestershire when he was 19. A year later, in 2006, he was playing for England in a one-day international against Pakistan. A vital member of the victorious 2009 Ashes squad, he won man of the match in the fifth Test at the Oval for his bowling. In May 2011, he became captain of England's Twenty20 side. He missed the recent T20 series against India because of a heel injury, but is to lead the team in the New Zealand series, which starts today.
