An ex-boyfriend who, looking back, I lost patience with. Now we know more about mental health, I think that was at the root of it; I am sorry I didn’t understand it at the time.
To my cousin P, who was one of my best mates growing up. We lost him when we were in our 20s and, before he passed away, I was so busy with this stupid thing called life and a brand new kid. He called me and said: “Bro, I’m not feeling right.” And I said: “Bro, you’ve never been feeling right.” And it always sits on my head that if me or somebody else had been paying more attention maybe things would have worked out different. He had extremely rare bowel cancer and died five weeks later at 27.
So many. I have been very cowardly in the past, and it came across as me not caring, when the opposite was true.
Anyone I slept with before the age of 27, because I was a selfish, cold-ass bitch.
Six weeks in my dad’s office doing admin was enough to persuade me to pursue a career in sport.
Apart from two Olympic gold medals, I’m proud of finishing fifth in the Foxhunter Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 2016, having never ridden a horse 12 months earlier.
