Zoë Heller, 43, was born in north London. She was educated at Haverstock Comprehensive and went on to study at Oxford and New York's Columbia University. In her 20s she became a national newspaper feature writer and columnist and, in 2000, her first novel was published. Her second, Notes On A Scandal, was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize in 2003 and made into an Oscar-nominated film. Heller's new novel is The Believers.
