Dying of the same awful disease that took my mother – a particularly aggressive form of dementia called Pick’s disease.
Of choking on some food and having no one nearby to do the Heimlich maneuver.
Danger to my children. And tidal waves.
Many readers have informed me that it is a tragic and dreary business to go into death without faith. I don’t feel that way. “Faith” is neutral. All depends on what is believed in. I have no desire to live forever. The concept frightens me. I am 69, have had cancer, will die sooner than most of those reading this. That is in the nature of things.
Not being in pain – I have back problems and had shoulder surgery just before Christmas and there isn’t a day that goes by when I am not in pain.

Feeling so helpless. You feel that governments should be making better choices; people are speaking out and nothing seems to be done about it.
Nothing. I love getting old – I love the freedom it allows you.
