I have also benefited from teaching; as I try to explain my views to students with critical and open minds, I find myself continually being challenged to go back and rethink ideas. I now see teaching and research as complementary, mutually reinforcing activities.

View all 40 →To me, part of what I love about puzzles is that they fuel my curiosity and I’d say curiosity and gratitude are my two favorite virtues. My last book was about gratitude; this book is all about curiosity. Curiosity is what drives puzzlers. They’re like, ‘Why is it? What is it?’
Knowledge is good for life. Life is what you play off for acting.
Number two I’d say to young people, be curious.

Well, I work from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed. And I work seven days a week.
I begin each morning, I do every single morning exactly the same way, I begin each morning by doing my highest priority work first. I have a very clear priority list and I start from the highest priority work first. Before I even get to work, my day is already a success. I've already completed my most important work and can dedicate my day to helping others.
I try really hard not to have Outlook manage my life.
So problem meetings or idea meetings or brainstorming meetings or creation meetings or whatever it is. Those are the meetings I go to.
they worked hard. They work hard today. So they passed along a lot of life lessons by working hard.
